November 30, 2012 – Orange Beach, Ala. (OBA) –– It is beginning to look a lot like Christmas. From skating and shopping to parades and performances, visitors are invited to enjoy all the holiday happenings in Gulf Shores and Orange Beach. Stretching across Pleasure Island, local businesses and organizations have unified to deck the halls and ring in the holiday season coastal style with events to make each member of your family jolly.

Coastal Chorale’s The Sounds of the Season Foley United Methodist Church Spirit Center (915 North Pine St., Foley) 7:30 p.m. (Nov. 30 & Dec. 1) and 3 p.m. (Dec. 2) Make sure to mark your calendar for this must-see Christmas event. 28th Annual “Christmas Through the Ages” Fort Gaines Historic Site (51 Bienville Blvd., Dauphin Island) With a rich history spanning three centuries, visit Fort Gaines for a step back in time, and discover Christmas through the years. The cost for adults is $5 and children ages 5-12 are free.
Christmas Angel Breakfast Gulf Shores United Methodist Church Building B (1720 Gulf Shores Parkway, Gulf Shores) 9 – 11 a.m. Preschoolers through 2nd graders and their families are invited to attend this annual breakfast at no cost, but reservations are requested.
Pictures with Santa Cotton Bayou Beach Access, Orange Beach 2 – 5 p.m. For a $20 donation (including full image rights) benefitting Orange Beach United Methodist Church’s youth mission trips, take in the area’s white-sand beaches and have your picture taken with Santa.
Dinner Party Faulkner State Community College Gulf Shores Campus (3301 Gulf Shores Parkway, Gulf Shores) 3 – 6 p.m. Learn the basics of preparing a successful meal and the ins and outs of planning and decorating for a dinner party during this hands-on class. Upon preparing a meal with hands-on instruction, you will be able to sit down with the class on feast on your creation. The cost is $50 per person.
Gulf Shores Christmas Parade & Beach Celebration Gulf Shores Public Beach 4 – 7 p.m. As part of the Coastal Christmas campaign across Alabama’s Gulf Coast, the third annual event will floats from around the area, a lighting ceremony and celebration. Join the City of Gulf Shores in this spectacular event by enjoying various activities including pictures with Santa, crafts, refreshments, a live nativity scene, live entertainment and the highly anticipated SEC Championship game.
Chris-myth Busters Gulf Shores United Methodist Church Building B (1720 Gulf Shores Parkway, Gulf Shores) 9:45 – 10:45 a.m. The Children’s Choir will perform “Chris-myth Busters,” a musical about discovering the truth about Christmas, for free to the public.
Handel’s Messiah Gulf Shores United Methodist Church Building B (1720 Gulf Shores Parkway, Gulf Shores) 2:30 – 4 p.m. The Choral Society of Pensacola and the Pensacola Symphony Orchestra will present the stunning sounds of Handel’s Messiah for $15 per person for general admission or $20 per person for reserved seating. Proceeds will benefit the Choral Society of Pensacola.

Nativity Open House First Baptist Church of Orange Beach (4773 Bay Circle at Canal Road, Orange Beach) 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. Celebrate the reason for the season with First Baptist Church of Orange Beach as they present church families’ nativity scenes from around the world. This event is fresh and refreshments will be served.
Steaks with Santa Shipp’s Harbour Grill at Sportman’s Marina (27844 Canal Road, Orange Beach) 5 -8 p.m. Bring the family out to support Orange Beach Elementary School by dining with Santa for a steak dinner.
“Light Up the Arts” on the Coast Coastal Art Center of Orange Beach (26389 Canal Road, Orange Beach) 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. Get creative with the Coastal Art Center for pottery, glass blowing and shopping for unique gifts for your loved ones.
Santa Drop at the Flora-Bama Flora-Bama (17401 Perdido Key Drive, Pensacola) 1 p.m. Watch Santa parachute onto the beach, then take pictures with St. Nick, listen to live music and take in all the fun that the Flora-Bama has to offer.
5K Jingle Bell Run Flora-Bama (17401 Perdido Key Drive, Pensacola) 9 – 11 a.m. Shed some holiday pounds by participating in the 5K Jingle Bell Run. The race begins and ends at the Flora-Bama.
Cookie Extravaganza Orange Beach United Methodist Church Brooks Center (28751 Canal Road, Orange Beach) 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. Satisfy your sweet tooth by purchasing special holiday cookies, candies and treats for the whole family to enjoy.
Merry Market at The Wharf Orange Beach Event Center (4671 Wharf Parkway, Orange Beach) 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. Knock out some of your holiday shopping with this festive arts and crafts market with free admission. Booth spaces start at $125.
Billy Claus Arrival at LuLu’s LuLu’s at Homeport Marina (200 Easy 25th Ave., Gulf Shores) 11 a.m. Join LuLu’s for family fun, arts and crafts and stay around to watch the 27th Annual Lighted Boat Parade beginning at 5:30 p.m. while you’re at it.
Wharf Christmas Open House The Wharf (23101 Canal Road, Orange Beach) 4 – 7 p.m. Wander through The Wharf for holiday deals, gift ideas, refreshments, libations and more!
27th Annual Christmas Lighted Boat Parade Intracoastal Waterway Canal 5:30 – 8:30 p.m. Take in the sights and sounds of the 27th Annual Christmas Lighted Boat Parade, beginning at LuLu’s at Homeport Marina and ending at Zeke’s Landing Marina.
Christmas Concert Gulf Shores United Methodist Church (1720 Gulf Shores Parkway, Gulf Shores) 7 – 8 p.m. Check out this free event at GSUMC for Christmas music for all ages to enjoy.
Live Nativity Orange Beach City Hall (4099 Orange Beach Blvd., Orange Beach) 5 – 8 p.m. While touring the town for Christmas lights galore, stop by Orange Beach United Methodist Church’s live nativity display at city hall.
Santa Claus at the Orange Beach Public Library Orange Beach Public Library (26267 Canal Road, Orange Beach) 10 – 11:30 a.m. Visit with jolly ole St. Nick as he rounds up the reindeer in Orange Beach.
Christmas Extravaganza Orange Beach Event Center (4671 Wharf Parkway, Orange Beach) 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. Get out of the holiday hustle and bustle and celebrate the local talent as elementary, middle and high school choral and band ensembles share some of the holiday season’s tunes.
Friends of the Library Christmas Open House Orange Beach Public Library (26267 Canal Road, Orange Beach) 3 – 6 p.m. Join the Orange Beach Public Library for their Christmas Open House for some holiday cheer.
Chamber Holiday Open House Alabama Gulf Coast Chamber of Commerce (3150 Gulf Shores Parkway, Gulf Shores) 11 – 2 p.m. Be sure to celebrate the holiday season with the Chamber for their 7th Annual Holiday Open House.
City of Gulf Shores Breakfast with Santa Erie Meyer Civic Center (1930 West 2nd St., Gulf Shores) 8 – 10:30 a.m. Join Santa for a hardy breakfast and photos. The cost is $4 per person no cost for children younger than 3.
Salute to the Pioneers of Space
National Museum of Naval Aviation (1750 Radford Blvd., Pensacola) 10 a.m. Everyone is invited to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Apollo 17 and former astronaut and retired Navy Capt. Gene Cernan’s last walk on the moon. This spectacular event will feature panel discussions with astronauts and NASA officials from the well-known Mercury, Gemini and Apollo missions, luncheon with a guest speaker, evening reception and dinner with unveiling of the Museum’s newest exhibit, a full-scale replica of an Apollo Lunar Excursion Model. The luncheon costs $25 per person with reservations required. The reception, LEM unveiling and dinner costs $150 per person with reservations required.

Wild Hearts “Sail with Santa” Sail Wild Hearts (27200 Perdido Beach Blvd., Orange Beach) Sail the seas with Santa with Sail Wild Hearts this holiday season for an adventure benefitting The Salvation Army’s Angel Tree. “Journeys of the Heart” South Baldwin Community Theatre (2022 West 2nd St., Gulf Shores) 7:30 p.m. (Dec. 7, 8, 14, 15) and 2 p.m. (Dec. 9 & 16) The play tells the story of a group of people on a journey to the North Pole in order to meet a Christmas Day deadline. The group encounters whimsical creatures and unbelievable sights during their travels. Tickets cost $10 for adults, $5 for students and children younger than 2 will be admitted free.
